Trading settlments have existed on the location of the city since antiquity. The modern city grew out of the foulburgh of Alavaria Castle, which was built around 795 BFE. An incident where the Warlord of Alavaria dispatched men-at-arms to quell a fight at the market on the Dewie river is thought to be the earliest mention of the place in historical records. The region also attracted travellers to the Barilika mineral baths, and was the focus of a hot springs wellness craze in the years shortly before the Kelssek Revolution.

Alavaria is connected to [[Burnaby]] by the Konueira Highway 9 expressway and the Konueira Railways Northern Trunk. It see scheduled service from Kelssek's major airlines to the Eryn Firith National Airport (code: ALA) located 12 km to the east.
