While the rivalry is called the Southern Fourge rivalry, it is notable that only [[Trothwands]] is actually in that area, as [[Firewood]] is located in central Fourge. Following the move of [[Greeningham City]] to [[Applegrass (region)|Applegrass]], Trothwands were the only remaining competition to Firewood in the Fourge region for some time in the early 22nd century, and the two clubs developed a rivalry competing for regional dominance.

The rivalry intensified after the [[Baptism of Fire 36|36th Baptism of Fire]], when Trothwands captain [[Malachi Lubret]] was expelled from the [[Osarius national football team|national team]] and heavily criticised by Firewood heroes [[Benedict di Corradi]] and [[Jermain Lewis]]. Neither club's fans forgot the conflict, and the ill feeling intensified. The derby is considered to be the most bitterly contested in Osarius, and frequently features heavy crowd violence.
