Strathcona Internationals FC is a professional football club based in Vickery, the republic capital of Conryia, Kelssek. The club was founded in 18 BFE by a group of expatriate workers to enter the Conryia Provincial Cup and city-level competitions, taking the name of the industrial quarter south of central Vickery which, today, is highly gentrified with the factories and warehouses converted to loft apartments.
Strathcona are sometimes nicknamed "The Globalists", originally a piss-take by fans of other clubs. This dates to the club's first league title win in the 60th Kelssek Championship season, the year after UICA's collapse. Although expecting to take part in the Dwile Invitational the paperwork was allegedly lost and the club were thus denied their opportunity to play in international competition.
The club president subsequently complained that Football Kelssek and international authorities were in a conspiracy against Strathcona. The following season, their away match to Conryia Derby rivals Mazinaw Vanorian saw taunts of "alien chemtrails, they're coming for you", Mazinaw fans in tinfoil hats, and the Strathcona players greeted with a tifo depicting them being abducted by a UFO and the words "I want to believe". At the time, Strathcona's title win was moderately surprising as they had been promoted two seasons before and were considered a mid-table club. There was thus a bit of desperation as many fans thought they might never get such a chance again.
History
Kelssek footballing legend François Saint-Louis was appointed manager in 185 FE and won the 11th Vilitan Cove Invitational in his first season, making Strathcona the first Kelssek football club to win an important international trophy – although the actual importance of the VCI is considerably downplayed by other clubs who haven’t won it, of course. Saint-Louis took the club into title contention in his third season (187-88/KFL68), but after a poor end to the season the club finished third and lost in the Patriotes Cup final. The following season, they had their best performance in international competition when they reached the IFCF Champions League round of 16. Saint-Louis won Strathcona its second league championship in 191-92 (KFL72), but left the club in the close season as he was recruited to become manager of the Kelssek national football team.
Niall Jenkins, a former Kelssek international from the previous generation, was hired from Torbay Thunder to take the job. Jenkins named Tumbran star player Lynne Crossley captain but there was a massive fall-off in his first season as the team, which saw many key players retire or leave the club after the title win, finished 11th. With new signings getting more adapted to the club things improved the following year and Strathcona climbed the table again, finishing third in 195-96 (KFL76). But the next year, Jenkins was sacked mid-season after a poor start to the season saw Strathcona in the relegation zone. Blake McDonagh was appointed in his place and managed to recover the league position to 13th, as well as reaching the Associations Trophy semifinals and Patriotes Cup final where they were convincingly beaten 4-0 by Latrobe Athletic. McDonagh cemented the team in the top half of the table over the next few years, but was not able to secure a return to IFCF tournaments until 5th place in the 201-02 (KFL82) season gained entry to the Challengers Cup. Despite expectations of improvement in league position Strathcona fell to 7th in the league. At the end of the season, the club negotiated a mutual termination of McDonagh's contract one year early, and appointed Nigella Daywell, then assistant manager at Kirkenes FC, to her first managerial position.
