Cup of Harmony 79 is an international football tournament which will be held in Cassadaigua and Northwest Kalactin. Defending champions Krytenia will enter the competition to defend their title, after missing out on qualification for the World Cup 87. This tournament will also feature a record 3 top 20 teams by KPB Rankings at the time of competition, following the failure of Eura, Mriin and Reçueçn to qualify for the World Cup.

Host selection

Two bids were submitted for the Cup of Harmony. Interestingly, both competing bids involved one of the co-hosts for World Cup 84. The main difference in the bids was the format of the tournament, as well as the size of the field that will be invited for the tournament. In the end, the bid by Cassadaigua and Northwest Kalactin won by 4 votes.

Format

A total of 64 teams will be invited to the tournament. The 64 teams will be split into 16 groups of 4, with each team playing other teams once in a round-robin format. Top 2 teams from each group will progress to the knockout phase, starting with the round-of-32 knockout phase.

Draw

Teams were seeded into one of four pots according to the KPB ranking system, updated as of the end of World Cup 87 qualification. Following the practice adopted by Ethane and Sylestone in the last Cup of Harmony, both hosts agreed that they will be seeded like every other team based on rankings, should they participate. In the end, Cassadaigua did not play in the tournament as they qualified for World Cup 87, while Northwest Kalactin was seeded in Pot 1 based on rankings. The positions of each team in their group (for the purposes of determining the match schedules in each group) were determined by a computerised draw after the conclusion of the draw ceremony.

Group stage

Tiebreakers

In the group stage, the ranking of teams in each group was based on the following criteria:

  1. Points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss);
  2. Points in matches between tied teams;
  3. Goal difference in matches between tied teams;
  4. Overall goal difference;
  5. Wins;[a]
  6. Overall goals scored;
  7. Drawing of lots (OOC: cumulative RP bonus).

Notes

  1. This criterion could only break a tie if a point deduction were to occur, as multiple teams in the same group cannot otherwise be tied on points but have a different number of wins.
