NOTE: Instructions on this page may not work with VisualEditor.
Wikipedia uses two methods of editing: the new VisualEditor (VE), now on opt-in beta-test release, and classic editing through wiki markup (wikitext).
VE editing is currently available only on article and user pages, and is chosen when a user clicks "Edit beta" at the top of a page or beside a section heading within the body of a page. Wikitext editing is chosen by clicking "Edit" or "Edit source".
The explanations and directions on this page are predominantly geared toward wikitext editing, and may not work (and result in errors) if you attempt to follow them using the VisualEditor. For instructions on using the new VisualEditor, see Wikipedia:VisualEditor/User guide.
