Passerine is a professional football club based in northern Kirkenes, playing in the Kelssek Football League Championship. It was formed through a merger between North York and Dungeaf, after the former entered bankruptcy due to the embezzlement of club funds through a cryptocurrency scheme, and took the name of a street in Kirkenes on which both clubs' offices were located.
It is often regarded as the phoenix club of North York, whose prior achievement was finishing as Championship runners-up in season 51. It has a derby rivalry with Kirkenes FC, although this is something of a David-vs-Goliath matchup which is far more significant to Passerine than to the bigger downtown club. The two predecessor clubs were historically associated with the Cumbrian and Frankish linguistic minorities of Kirkenes. Media characterize Passerine as having a "hipster vibe" and the club has worked to market itself as part of the city's cultural scene with promotions in music venues and releasing a fashion line of sporty casual wear with club branding.
Passerine were permitted to immediately enter professional competition upon their founding, in effect taking the place that North York would have held in the third division (following their relegation due to a large points deduction when its financial collapse saw them unable to play several matches). They entered the Kelssek Football League in season 64 and went on to win the KFL National, Kelssek's second division, twice.
Current manager Brigitte Coppinger was appointed in season 71, joining from CF Outineau where she had played to the end of her career and then spent three years as coach and assistant manager. Ahead of KFL season 73, the club announced a sponsorship with Neu Engollon beverage conglomerate Terembev.
