About
Yakk, officially The Empirical State of Yakk is a rural nation of rough 6 million people in the region of Atlantian Oceania. Yakk is known for it's wildlife, it's agricultural production and it's fierce warrior culture. Yakkians are known for their work in animal husbandry and are know to be profuse archers. The Bow and Arrow was common weapon even before the formation of the Yakk Empire.
History
In 1120 Qasmanrat a coastal city state with a primarily Turkic population was invaded by coastal raiders. These raiders were primarily of Mongol ethnicity and eventually due to their overwhelming tactics at sea including the use of archery, they were able to overwhelm the city state and take it over for their own. Given the nature of Qasmanrat and that it was on the mouth of what is now known as The Yakk River, the raiders set up in Qasmanrat and used it as a base of operations for raids down river to other Turkic city states located on the banks of the river. After three decades of battles on The Yakk River eventually under the rule of Tsenbayar I The people populating the nation had been unified under Tsenbayar I but in 1156 the unification became official with the Decree of the Yakk River. It was an easy peace within the empire but from the outside, there were issues. The main issue was outside invaders, mainly those from the north in a region known as the Lhaskan Plateau for hundreds of years this would become an issue for the Yakkian population for centuries. The primary issue with the invasions is that in the counter attack, the Yakk struggled to navigate the mountainous regions which surrounded the Yakk River valley. This lead to decades of defensive warfare from the Yakks. In fact the Yakkian populace put up with nearly six centuries of this. While scholars agree the fact that the Yakkian empire was formed from coastal sea raiders, may have hamstrung the nation in its formitave years. the extensive 600+ years of fending off invaders is largely a product of leadership in the empire. Now this isn't to say it was 600 consecutive years, but rather there were several military skirmishes with the LKhaskans over a period of six centuries. In the 1700s something was finally done though. Emporer Orbilagar IV finally did away the Lhaskans and in 1759 he invaded. Using early gunpowdered weapons such as rifles and flintlocks the Yakks eventually overpowered the Lhaskans and to this day large Han and Tibeten minorities exist in the Yakk empire due to these conflicts. The conquest of the Lhaskans also opened a huge amount of mineral resources to the Yakk people.
The Modern Era of Yakk
The current emperor of Yakk is Nyam-Orgil. He took over in 1992 when, with outside help, over through the 20 year reign of the Yakk Federal Republic a authoritarian regime that over through his father some 20 years prior. He has been lauded as one of the more fair emperors and is well loved by the populace. His father was the same although he was assasinated in the early 1970s by a coup de'tat. He is also responsible for several modernization techniques and has done a lot to expand the rail infrastructure in the north and west of the nation.
