History
Administration
The administration of Joongyeong consists of two tiers. On the upper tier there is Metro Joongyeong, chaired by the Lord Mayor, who is elected separately from the Joongyeong Metropolitan Council, which consists of representatives from all its smaller bodies. Right below consists of 12 smaller authorities, which consist of 12 arrondissements from the traditional City of Joongyeong, as well as non-constituent cities that fall outside of the city boundaries, but are considered part of the Metro Joongyeong.
Alongside Songak, its rival directly southwest, Joongyeong is a federal city that technically doubles up as a province of its own. The Metro Joongyeong, however, does not incorporate the Joongyeong province's cities on the south side of the St. Henri River. Due to this mark of differentiation, the Lord Mayor is technically not the highest-ranking official in charge of the Joongyeong province. Alongside the Mayor of Levis, who chairs the cities south of the St. Henri River, he is considered the second-highest ranking official in the Joongyeong province below the Premier, who holds limited powers compared to other provincial premiers, but still holds significance of his own.
