List of Political Parties in Tumbra
Tumbra is a multi-party democracy, though six parties tend to monopolise votes. Two of these - the Labour and Liberal parties - have provided every single government since 1882, and have provided 27 of Tumbra's 30 Prime Ministers. Before 2008 the Liberal Party was in coalition with two other parties; the Christian Democratic Party and the National Party. Since the 2009 election, however, the Christian Democratic Party has merged into the Liberal Party, and the National Party, while organisationally separate, contests elections under the Liberal Party banner, and its members sit in the Liberal Party room. This arrangement lasted from 2008 until 2021, when the Nationals unilaterally decided to leave the arrangement, and continue under the old arrangement of the Liberal Alliance until which time a new arrangement could be formalised. Several former Christian Democrats, disappointed at the 2021 election results, have also mooted the possibility of re-forming the old Christian Democratic Alliance, bringing it back under the old name.
Parties in the Federal Parliament are often described by their party colours; Labour uses red, the Liberals use blue (and the Nationals use dark green), yellow for the Moderate Party, green for the Greens, dark blue for the Conservatives and dark red for the Social Democrats. Independents typically use grey; though their presence on the federal level is rare.
