The Republican Party is a christian democratic and liberal conservative political party in Darmen. It is the major catch-all party of the center-right in Darmeni politics.

The party was formed in January, 2045 following a split in the preceeding Movement for a New Darmen which saw the pro-Common Rushmori Community faction of the MND leave to join the National Civil Liberal Democratic Union and form the Liberal Party. The remaining faction of the MND, those who were hesitant about Darmeni membership in the Common Rushmori Community formed the basis of the Republican Party. The party was initially led by Tor Tong Lee, but Alexander Woodrow is the party's current leader since his election in 2050.

History

Voter base

Geographically, the Republican Party draws significant support in rural and suburban areas. It is a popular choice for middle class voters and farmers.

The party has strong links to Darmen's Christian population and denominations, in particular the Protestant Church in Darmen as well as English speaking Catholics.

Previously, the party was able to draw significant support from Tor Tong Lee's popularity as the most famous Darmeni footballer. Many Darmenis who were normally apolitical but were fans of Tor Tong Lee voted for the Republican Party in 2045 and for the Movement for a New Darmen in prior elections.
