Kaedeki, officially The Theocratic Shogunate of Kaedeki, is an island nation located in the middle of nowhere. Situated somewhere, it extends from this place to the other place. Kaedeki spans an archipelago of nearly 1900 islands, with only 27 of them being permanently populated. Kaedeki's more notable islands include Hisumire (formerly Hesmèr), Sayakiri, Ameshima, Shinseito, and Akahi. Yoitama is the political and administrative capital of Kaedeki, while Kyoba is the largest city. Hōfu, located on the isolated island of Shinseito, serves as the religious capital and a religious mecca for many Kaedereijin. Other major cities include the Fox City of Sayakiri, Nanada, Mishi, Houyoku, and Jinsan.

Kaedeki is moderately populated with its more populated islands usually housing about 750,000 Kaedereijin. Most of Kaedeki is mountainous, and volcanos are scattered across the archipelago, some of which are active. However, the only inhabited volcanic islands are all dormant or extinct, the most notable of which being Hisumire where both Yoitama and Kyoba are located. Otherwise, most of Kaedeki's population is centered around the coast as a result of a developing seaside culture in prehistory, and Nanada is the only city with a population above 500,000 to not have any access to the sea. Kaedeki is split into 8 main regions and further divided into 55 prefectures, each of which having several districts.

Archaeology has shown Kaedeki to have been continuously inhabited, primarily in the coastal areas of Sayakiri and Shinseito, for at least 1500 years. Under the guidance of the Kazeshin, the Wind God, the early Nishimuran civilisation gradually spread out to other nearby islands, before forming what would be the Nishimura Fiefdom. After a long period of isolationism under the Kazeshin, the Nishimura Fiefdom opened up to the multiverse. They were known for their strong naval force, with many of the war-boats used still preserved to this day. After a brief period of vassalage under the Shirohoujin, independence was regained and Kazeshin has remained a shogunate under the Kazeshin and Hōfu Shrine ever since.

Kaedeki is a theocratic autocracy, and a highly developed country with an advanced high-income economy and a high quality of life. However, severe wealth inequality has destabilised Kaedeki in recent years, and its human development index has experienced a 8th consecutive year with a decrease. Kaedeki is well-known for its noteworthy cultural and religious heritage, and influential pop culture and cuisine. Its colossal tourism industry coupled with a booming fruit industry classify it as a middle power.

Name

The name Kaedeki is derived from the Kaedego word for wind, kaede "風", and a placename suffix, -ki "林". Not much is known regarding the origins of the name or why it came to be, but there have been a few myths suggested, with the most common one being that "Kaedeki" was named as a tribute by the Nishimura clan to the Kazeshin, the Wind God and the Nishimura clan's resident god. "Nishimura" itself is an archaic and outdated name for Kaedeki, with its only usage being in ancient texts and literature.

The Karago name "Fenglin" (Karago: 風林; romanisation: fēnglín) is a translation of the Kaedego name, and the official Shirohougo name "Fengrin" is a direct transliteration of the Karago word. However, it is becoming more popular for Shirohoujin to call Kaedeki by its Kaedego namesake, and "Fengrin" is becoming slightly outdated.
