The Omerican Professional Soccer League (Gallic: Ligue professionnelle de soccer omericain), commonly referred to as the OPSL (Gallic: LOSP), is the governing body for professional association football league competition in Omerica, serving under the authority of the United Republican Soccer Federation.
Competition
The 64 member clubs of the OPSL are grouped into four divisions of sixteen clubs each. In any given season a club plays each of the others in the same division twice, once at their home stadium and once at their opponents’ home stadium. Consequently, each club plays a total of 30 league games each season.
Teams are ranked by a points system, with teams earning three points for a win, one for a draw and none for a loss. If two or more teams are tied on points, then games won, goal difference and goals scored are used as tiebreakers; if still equal, the teams are deemed to occupy the same position. If an absolute tie must be broken to determine the championship, relegation or qualification to domestic playoffs or international competitions, a playoff match at a neutral venue determines the higher-ranked team.
In each division, the two lowest-ranked teams are relegated to the division below. Conversely, in each division (except the Premier), the champions win direct promotion to the division above, alongside the winners of a knockout playoff series contested between the second- through fifth-placed teams. Furthermore, the top two divisions offer access to IFCF tournaments: the top team in the Premier Division qualify for the Champions League, while the top three teams in the Second Division qualify for the Champions Trophy.
