The 84th edition of the Baptism of Fire is a football tournament that was hosted by the nations of Tumbra and Hapilopper prior to World Cup 97. The competition was open to every unranked team as of the World Cup 97 cycle. Edsmontik won the tournament, beating Kronbia 1-0 in the final.
Host selection
A sole bid was submitted to host the competition. Following the preferential voting system specified by the World Cup Committee constitution, the Esportivan nations of Tumbra and Hapilopper were awarded the hosting rights.

A total of 24 teams entered the tournament. As all teams are unranked there was no seeding, with all teams randomly assigned into six groups. Groups A through to C were hosted in Tumbra, while Groups D through F were hosted in Hapilopper.
