Qusmo, officially the State of Qusmo, is a nation in Rushmore. It comprises an island in the Xandrian Sea. It is most widely known across the Multiverse for its unique relationship with gender and its presence in sport.
Geography
Qusmo is a nation encompassing the whole of a volcanic island within the Xandrian Sea, off the western Pavolan coast of the region of Rushmore. The volcano that created the landmass, Gor Qusma, has long been extinct and poses no threat to visitors or inhabitants today. Found in the Rushmori subregion of Pavola, the nation can be found roughly equidistantly between Nangang, the capital of Yuezhou, and Zube, the capital of the Kytler Peninsulae, to the southwest and northeast, respectively. The interior of the nation is very mountainous, as Gor Qusma dominates the geography of the entire country. Qanz, the capital, is nearly three kilometres, or nearly two miles, above sea level. However, many of Qusmo’s other major cities are all found at or around sea level on the nation’s coast.
Qanz is Qusmo's transportation hub, with the most flights and routes offered of any airport in Qusmo, but Polan, Atlem, and Tracam also offer plenty of international routes and destinations to and from Qusmo. A domestic air industry also exists to take passengers to and from major cities within Qusmo. It is also possible to travel to Qusmo via international ferry. Several longstanding international ferry routes connect Qusmo to its neighbors around the Xandrian Sea, including Tracam to Jiangdong, Yuezhou; Polan to Alaer, Kytler Peninsulae; and Vlyv to Alcassar, Tikariot.
Qusmo’s intercity rail network is based around a hub, spoke, and wheel plan, with Qanz the hub, routes to various major coastal cities the spokes, and rail lines encircling the island the wheel. High-speed rail routes exist from Qanz to Atlem, Polan, Kolle, and Tracam, with transfers to regional lines serving each area. Kolejz Serana, which translates literally as the Sea Line, is a high-speed line which encircles the whole island and stops at all major coastal cities.
Government and politics
Qusmo's head of state and head of government is Qusmi Bez, which translates literally as "first Qusmi." The current Qusmi Bez is Drolx-Dalox Aka. Drolx-Dalox is a member of the People's Alliance, and they have governed Qusmo since their party won a supermajority in the Qusejzym election in the eighty-third WCC cycle. In the aftermath of the election, and widespread protests, the Military Council of National Salvation declared martial law across the country, and the constitution was rewritten, concentrating more power in the office of Qusmi Bez. These events are referred to as the Reforms.
Demographics
Qusmo has a population of approximately 99.3 million, as of the most recent census. The vast majority of the population reported they were ethnically Qusma. Most respondents reported their native language was Qusmu, but that they also spoke Terranean. The largest city in Qusmo, with a population of approximately 4.2 million, is Qanz, which is also the nation's capital. It is the only one of Qusmo's eight largest cities not situated on or near the coast.

Culture
The most distinctive feature of Qusma culture to many outsiders is its unique relationship to gender. The vast majority of Qusmi’y are androgynous and nonbinary. Gender theorists have alternatively argued that the traditional Qusma gender is akin to nonbinary genders elsewhere in the Multiverse, that the traditional Qusma gender is the absence of gender, that the traditional Qusma gender is its own phenomenon independent of foreign nonbinary gender expressions, or that gender does not exist altogether. Qusmi'y with one or more ancestors who are not ethnically Qusma, or who spent formative years of their lives outside Qusmo, may be likelier to adopt a binary gender identity, either alone or in combination.
Another highly visible aspect of Qusma culture is names. Traditional Qusma names include a compound surname, usually taking one name from each parent in two-parent households, followed by a given name. There is an extremely short and strict list of names which are considered traditionally Qusma. Family names include a pair of five-letter units, on either side of a hyphen, and given names are three letters long. Unlike the name order systems of many other nations, given names are preceded by family names, as is the case in Qusmo’s neighbor of Yuezhou. However, nontraditional names and gender identities have become more common in recent years. This can be traced, in part, to the rise in Qusma expatriates, which may settle in countries with different naming conventions, or which may have families with those who are not ethnically Qusma.
Qusma demonyms can be confusing to outsiders. Qusmo is the noun for the state, the nation, and the landmass. Qusmi is the noun for a person from Qusmo. Qusmi’y is the plural noun for people from Qusmo. Qusma is the adjective for something of or from Qusmo. Qusmu is the language native to Qusmo.
Association football is Qusmo's most popular sport. Currently, the country's top domestic league is the League of the Single Sun, shared with Sanford. Qusma clubs had previously competed in Pug Qusmyra and Pug Xily'a. The golden age of football in Qusmo was in the early eighties, per WCC cycles, as Qusma teams advanced to the World Cup octofinals, Copa Rushmori quarterfinals, Cup of Harmony semifinals, Champions' Cup quarterfinals, Challengers' Cup hexadecifinals, and Copa de Campeones quarterfinals. Qusmo has hosted several major football tournaments, including Copas Rushmori XXXII and L and World Cups 98 and 100.
