Elephant Chess Cup
The Elephant Chess Cup (ECC) is an international chess championship, started by South Newlandia. It is the longest running international chess competition.
Format
The Elephant Chess Cup is a chess tournament in which teams of four compete against each other in chess matches across four seperate boards. Some teams bring reserves, although that is not required. Each game of chess is played with the 15+5 time control (15 minutes for the whole game with five extra seconds per move). In each match, one point is gained for winning a board and half a point for drawing one. The team that gets more board points across the four boards gains two match points (or one each if it's a 2-2 tie).
The exact format varies depending on the edition and host of the tournament but past ECC's often involved two stages, the first one splitting the teams into seperate groups where they could qualify for the second stage, in many cases either a single-round robin group stage or a single elimination knockout stage to determine the finalists.

Notes
- ↑ 1.0 1.1 In the first two ECCs, Bollonich and Græntfjall sent a team comprising of two players from each nation. For the purpose of title histories, these titles are counted as belonging to both nations.
- ↑ TJUN-ia win on better knockout seeding.
- ↑ 3.0 3.1 3.2 3.3 ECCs 6, 7, 9 and 11 used a format with a Super Six stage and no third place playoff. Third and fourth were determined purely based on Super Six standings.
- ↑ 4.0 4.1 ECC 8 had two halves in each knockout match, with the winner being determined by the results of both matches (without taking board score into account). A blitz tiebreaker would be played if both matches were drawn, or both teams won one each.
- ↑ 5.0 5.1 ECC 10 had two halves in each knockout match, with the winner being determined by the total score in both matches. A blitz tiebreaker would be played if the total was tied 4-4.
- ↑ ECC 12 used a format in which after an initial Casaran stage, the top eight teams advanced into two groups of four, playing a single-round robin. The group winners would contest the final while the two runner-ups shared the 3rd place.
- ↑ The Kytler Peninsulae wins due to better finish in the Super Six stage.
