KAN trigram:

Hello! I see that trigramme KAN has been used by both Kannap and Kanmer in recent years. Obviously for a long time Kannap's used it, but sometime between his absences me and my previous cohost most likely assigned KAN to Kanmer for a recent Olympics.

In those cases which of Kannap or Kanmer do we keep as KAN's country alias? Thank you. PaddingtonBear (talk) 17:58, 6 October 2024 (UTC)

Two distinct issues are in play here. First is how to handle it on the wiki. Since it's not possible to go back and change results so Kanmer has a different code - and it would create lots of potential confusion - on here there will need to be some coding to ensure KAN means Kannap or Kanmer depending on which Olympics it is, which fortunately I have just figured out how to do.

Second is what to do going forward in-universe. This would have to be worked out between future event hosts and Kanmer, but speaking from a record-keeping standpoint it's best to give Kanmer a new code. What happens if Kannap comes back? Kelssek (talk) 00:20, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for your clarification! That makes perfect sense, especially for consistency's sake. Looks like the issue may have come from trigrammes being all over the place in past for past/present delegations in Olympics, and how they match with UICA/IFCF/other comps. Think Schottia, who's mostly used SCT IIRC, had SCH at one point for similar reasons.

Of course, for recording purpose, I would be more than happy for Kannap to keep the in-universe trigramme and Kanmer to get a separate one, maybe KNM or KMR. I forget what used to be CH's policies on UICA, for example, but maybe that's something that could be addressed by a future host or Olympic Council president - for the XIX cycle I think that would be Electrum or Liventia.
