MCC Tournaments

2nd South Newlandian Classical Chess Cup

The 2nd South Newlandian Classical Chess Cup (2nd SN3C) was the first tournament of MCC Season 2 and contested by 55 individual players in Newport, South Newlandia. In a match, both players had 60 minutes to play all of their moves. Entrants were placed in six groups of 8 and one group of 7, playing everyone in their group once. The winners of each group qualified for a final stage, where they played each of the other six group winners once.

After the end of the final stage, three players were tied for first place. A double-round robin Rapid Chess Tiebreaker was held to determine the winner of the tournament. Brian Bowman won the tiebreaker against Marielle Figueroa and Johnny B. Goode and was the first player to reach the World Chess Championship Qualifier.

2nd Grand Casaran of Chess

The 2nd Grand Casaran of Chess (GCC) was held in Zynusgrad, Paradystopia. The 48 entrants played 13 rounds according to a Casaran system. Ties on points were broken by Buchholz excluding the lowest, then total Buchholz, to reward players that faced tougher paths. The time control was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, with an additional 30 minutes added after 40 moves, plus a 30 second increment added for every move from the start.

Ziggy Stardust from the Martian Independent Republic and Prof. James Huldenberg qualified for the World Chess Championship Qualifier through their position in the Top 2 standings of the GCC. World Champion Eleanor Rigby was the only Martian to not finish in the Top 4, ending the tournament on 21st place.

1st MCC Masters & MCC Open

The MCC Masters and Open were a pair of chess tournaments, contested by individual players. In both tournaments, the time control was 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, with an additional 30 minutes added after 40 moves, plus a 30 second increment added for every move from the start. Both tournaments were hosted simultaneously in Waldstein, Katzeburg.

The MCC Masters were contested by ten players, including both players that contested the most recent MCC World Chess Championship - Eleanor Rigby and Anne Christian-Warren, and additionally the 8 highest-ranked players in the MCC Rankings, limited to one per nation. The contestants played a round-robin event, in which every player plays every other player once.

In the MCC Open, 15 players played 9 rounds according to a Casaran system.

The two winners, Jamie Cartwright and Mark Jensen, qualified for the World Chess Championship Qualifier. The latter became the second qualified Katzeburgian, making Katzeburg the first nation with two players in the WCC Qualifier this season.
