A history of Sylestone Sports

Sylestone is reasonably new to NS Sports, located in the region of Esportiva currently. They are a tropical island country, a nation with beautiful rainforests, reefs and beaches. The nation is famous for its city of Kirkham, a place where the entire population is made of sentient objects. These objects have played football and handball for the nation and animals with human qualities have played ice hockey. Along with these sports, humans play cricket, lacrosse and Aussie rules. A basic overview of its sporting history can be found here.

GCF Test Series 11

Sylestone have played four test cricket matches to date, with two wins and two losses. The first three were against Ethane in Sylestone's very first event on the international sporting stage. After a good start, the power of Ethane's side eventually overpowered Sylestone as they found their way to a six-wicket win. In the second test, Sylestone equalised the series with a nailbiting 5 wicket win that they should have won much more convincingly. The final game was won convincingly by Ethane as Sylestone lost their first series.

Sylestone in Ethane
First Test Ethane win by six wickets (1-0)
Second Test Sylestone win by five wickets (1-1)
Third Test Ethane win by 6 wickets (2-1)

GCF ODI World Cup I

A good showing sent a message out to the cricketing world that they were a competitive side with a good showing in the GCF ODI WC I. They started in Group C, defeating Kriegiersien, The Booter and Baggieland to finish second in the six-team group, after Jeckland. This meant that they were sent into the playoff round against Kohnhead. A dominating batting performance set Kohnhead 387 to win, a total far too high for them as Sylestone progressed to Group J. Their first game against Martune was won convincingly, and a 21 run win against The Sarian put them at the top of Group J after three Matchdays. Then things went down from there. Two close losses to New Lunenberg and Mattijana effectively put them out of playoff contention but a slaughtering win against Sajnur kept those hopes alive. Then it came. The crucial blow. A massive collapse and an intense partnership between Afosha and Polen failed to get the national side over the line against Elejamie as Sylestone finished fourth.

Football/Soccer

World Cup 85

A decent showing in the Baptism of Fire put them in third place of Group A with a 2-3-2 record, the two losses coming against the top two sides, unbeaten Adyatin and Jamestownnnnn. Unfortunately, a loss to Villablanca in the Round of 32 sealed their fate. Then came the World Cup. After a shock 2-1 win over Pot 4 side Eastfield Lodge, they quickly fell and by the end of the first leg, they were in the last place of the group. Despite trying hard, this is the spot they remained. Going into the Cup of Harmony, they were 228th ranked, forty ranks lower than the next qualified side. This didn't deter them as a 4-3 victory against the Independent Athletes from Quebec and a draw against Mavinet meant they were competitive, but not good enough as they still came last in the group.

The first-up victory over Silver Beach put them in with a chance of progression and a brilliant draw against Drawkland further increased their chances. Wins against Darkmania and Gekkeom put them in the second spot, but with a round of 16 game against defending champions New Lusitania. They pushed them, but they simply didn't do well enough as they lost.

Then they were up against Krytenia, of which a shock win was produced as they went through to the final four. The game went to Extra time, but unfortunately, Sylestone lost their way and had to be satisfied with runners-up.

World Cup 86

Drawn into Group 6 (aka. Toilet Group), one of the hardest groups, Sylestone began alright but lost their way in the second half of the first leg. But a 4-3 loss to ninth-ranked side The Holy Empire put their campaign back on track, and despite a disappointing loss to Southwest Eastnorth, they managed to defeat Delaclava and Juvencus. However, then two shocking games followed and Sylestone was in ninth. And that was how it stayed. A draw to The Holy Empire left their campaign on a high note, and now they can look forward to the CoH.

WLC 34

Sylestone were drawn into a group with presidents Sarzonia, 15th ranked Aimena and unranked Lovisa. It was a tough group, but one that they could be able to progress from. And they so nearly did. After a big 13-4 loss to Lovisa first up, they came back with a stunning 9-8 victory over Sarzonia and a close victory against Aimena. In second place, they quickly dropped from that pedestal with two consecutive losses. A win against Aimena wasn't good enough for progression.
