The Champions League 16 final was the final match of the 16th edition of the IFCF Champions League, the world championship for club football. It was played at Stadium Konueira, Burnaby between Chromatik club Alnio and Kelssek club Kirkenes FC. Kirkenes won in a penalty shootout to become the second Kelssek club to win club football's world championship.
Venue
Stadium Konueira is the home ground of Burnaby SC, a bitter rival of Kirkenes FC. Burnaby supporters sought to create a hostile atmosphere for their compatriots, culminating in the police force's riot squad being deployed late at night as crowds aimed fireworks at the windows of the hotel the Kirkenes team were staying in.
Background
Kirkenes
Kirkenes qualified for the Champions League group stage as Kelssek champions. Their domestic season had not gone entirely well as they finished fourth in the league and were unceremoniously dumped out of the Patriotes Cup by bitter rivals CF Outineau at the first hurdle. This was Kirkenes's first-ever IFCF final, although they had played international finals previously when they won the Vilitan Cove Invitational.
Alnio
Alnio qualified for the Champions League third qualifying round by finishing third in the Red League. They defeated Tannenberg FC (Valladares) and then CF Outineau (Kelssek) in the playoff round to reach the main phase of the competition.

Match
Summary
If the Kirkenes team had noticed the events outside their hotel, at least Alnio also played the 90 minutes like they’d been sleep-deprived, in a poor spectacle that finished scoreless after normal time and only came to life in the extra period. Catheline Matthias thought she’d delivered the trophy when she scored 7 minutes in, a cool placed finish after substitute Bastian Wolff had nicked a poor clearing attempt. Alnio surged back with devastating focus and got the equalizer to force a shootout with 6 minutes to go.
