The Gothanitan Football League (Division 1), often referred to as the Gothanitan Football League or GFL, is the top level of the Gothanitan football league system. Administered by the Gothanita Isles Football Confederation (GIFC), it consists of 2 conferences of 14 teams each, and operates on a system of promotion and relegation, with teams being relegated to the Gothanitan Football League Division 2. Seasons run from February to October yearly, with each team playing 26 matches every season (playing all 13 other teams in the same conference home and away), before advancing to the playoffs.

The competition was formed in 2074, in an original format of a single league and single division. In 2097, it was announced that the 24th edition of the season will mark the first season the league submits to the IFCF club competitions, and Gothanitan teams will start participating in IFCF and other regional club competitions starting from the 4th cycle.

History

Participation in Regional and International Club Competitions

The structure of The Gothanita Isles means it submits to a grand total of 5 sets of regional competitions, on top of the IFCF club competitions. This is because of the "semi-multi-associations" structure of the league.
