The Gothanitan Football League 26-27 will be the 26th and the 27th season of the Gothanitan Football League, the top Gothantian professional league for association football clubs. The defending champions will be Arenes FC, who won the 25th Gothanitan Football League after defeating FC Tyrani in the playoffs.
Change in Format
The 26th season of Gothanitan Football League was originally planned to adopt the conference system as previously used. Teams will be split into 2 leagues by geographical location, namely the Otkdor League and the Liga Hallirina. However, such plans were scrapped following political deadlock in the country which resulted in social unrests, delaying the start of the football season. As a number of professional football clubs have proposed to the Gothanitan Isles Football Confederation for a revamp in format, it was agreed that the 26th and the 27th season will be merged into 1 season over 2 years, with the conference system scrapped.
Under the new format, all 28 teams in the Otkdor League and the Liga Hallirina will play every other team twice over 2 years, split into 2 mini-seasons, namely Season 26, and Season 27. The winners of Season 26 and Season 27, together with 4 other teams based on aggregate results, will qualify for the end-of-season round robin playoffs.
Teams
28 teams will compete in the Gothanitan Football League - the top 12 teams from each conference in the previous season, the conference champions promoted from the second division, as well as the 2 winners of the promotion/relegation playoffs.
