Current: Third Xandrian Series

The Xandrian Series is an invitational football tournament, held in different cities in Qusmo and contested by national teams from around the Xandrian Sea. It is generally taken to be a friendly tournament to prepare for the Copa Rushmori. It is organized by Fuzpon Qusma.

History

The Xandrian Series was developed to foster closer ties between neighboring countries and federations around the Xandrian Sea in central Rushmore. The four nations represented in the first two editions of the Xandrian Series later became the four cohosts of World Cup 98, and three of the four also cohosted World Cup 100. After several cycles of dormancy, the event was revived and expanded when Chromatika appeared in the region as a new island in the Xandrian Sea, to offer that team experience against regional competition before their first Copa Rushmori.

Format

The Xandrian Series originally included four competing teams in its first and second editions, but it expanded to six teams for its third edition. In both formats, the team which leads the table of all participants after three matchdays is named the event's champion.

Four teams

In four-team editions of the tournament, teams play a single round robin, with one match against every other team.

Six teams

In six-team editions of the tournament, its format follows the Helvetica System introduced for CAFA Cup 8. Teams are divided into three pots of two teams each, and they play a match against one team from every pot, including their own.

Venues and logistics

The tournament lasts seven days in total. Each of the its three matchdays are staged as doubleheaders, in four-team formats, or tripleheaders, in six-team formats, at the same stadium on the same day. Each matchday is held at a different city and stadium within Qusmo, three days after the matchday prior.

Tiebreakers

If two teams are tied on the basis of both points and head-to-head results, they will contest a penalty shootout following the conclusion of the final game to resolve their tie. If more than two teams are both tied on points and either not all tied teams played each other or there are at least three teams tied on head-to-head results, they will contest a single-elimination tournament of penalty shootouts, seeded on the basis of goal difference, wins, and KPB+ ranking, in that order.
