The Supercopa Valladar, best known as the Canalave Crown following its merger with the former Valladar league championship final match, is an association football trophy contested in an annual match between the champions of the Valladar Liga-1 and the winners of the King's Shield, equivalent to the super cups found in many other countries. Organized jointly by the Valladar Football Association (VFA) and the Liga Federal de Valladares, it was first held prior to the start of the 24th Valladar Super League season. The match is traditionally played at Dragon Stadium in Canalave the week prior to the start of the league season, although in its early editions it was played at Alexander I National Stadium in Swangard.
History
Although the King's Shield was first played concurrently with the tenth Valladar Super League season, a super cup match facing the domestic league and cup champions was not played until the start of the 24th league edition, when Fontvielle Impact as the most recent Super League champions and Nacional as the most recent King's Shield winner played each other in Swangard with l'Impact emerging victorious by a 3–0 score to win the first edition of the Supercopa Valladar. With Fontvielle Impact embarking at the time on a successful title-winning streak, the following three Supercopa editions were also won by Les Bleus.
With the Valladar Super League running under an Apertura-Clausura format in its early seasons and later switching to a format featuring a regular season and playoffs, the final match to decide the league champions started being known as the Canalave Crown due to it being held at Dragon Stadium in Canalave. After the Valladar Football Association announced changes to the league format prior to the start of the 26th Valladar Super League which included the end of post-season playoffs and the return to a double round-robin league season, it was decided to merge the Canalave Crown with the Supercopa Valladar, moving the super cup match to Canalave as a compensation to the local fans for the elimination of the traditional championship final match. However, since Dragon Stadium was undergoing refurbishment and expansion works at the time, the super cup continued being played in the federal capital until the 30th Super League season, moving to its intended venue for the following season. The first Supercopa edition played in Canalave, now as the Canalave Crown, ended with the Super League champions Metropolis Alligators defeating the King's Shield holders Nacional 2–0 to win their first title in the competition.
