Elections in Darmen
Elections in Darmen include elections for the President of Darmen, Parliament of Darmen and the various municipal councils. Darmen is a representative democracy, most public officials are elected directly or are appointed by other public officials who have been elected directly.
Election Day
Beginning with the elections in 2049, Election Day is the final Friday of each April, except when no elections are scheduled to be held. In the case of the presidential election requiring a second round, a second election day is held two weeks later, also on a Friday.
Voter eligibility
In order to be eligible to vote in elections in Darmen, voters must meet the following requirements:
- be a Darmeni citizen;
- at least 16 years old;
- have lived in Darmen for the past year, or have registered as an overseas voter with the relevant embassy or consulate;
- may not be serving a prison sentence for a felony, or if such sentence has been completed, have been convicted of voter fraud or other related acts, or of improperly aiding a foreign or domestic power in the subversion of the nation, as well as anyone on parole or probation for a felony conviction.
Electoral system
Presidential elections are conducted using the two-round system, while parliamentary and municipal elections are conducted using closed list proportional representation via the D'Hondt method.
