The Saltsteadish Football Royal Cup (Saltsteadish: Såutsteidisħ Footballs Königsbecker; /ˈkøːnəgzˌbekɐ/) is an annual knockout competition involving Saltsteadish association football clubs. Participation in the competition is open to all professional clubs affiliated to the Royal Saltsteadish Football Association, which organises the competition.
AFC Såumshagen are the current champions, defeating Audkirkenclub 2–1 in the season 10 final.
Format
The 36 clubs in the Saltsteadish Football League qualify for the automatically Royal Cup proper, with the 48 third-tier clubs in playing a two-round competition for the remaining 28 berths. The third-tier clubs are paired against each other to play over two legs in the qualifying round, with the winners qualifying for the Royal Cup proper and the eight losing clubs with the best records advancing to the playoff round. The playoff round is seeded by qualifying round record, with the higher-ranked club hosting the single-leg match; the winning club in each match qualifies for the competition proper.
The Royal Cup proper is contested as a single-elimination tournament. All ties except the final are held over two legs, with the winner of each fixture advancing to the next round. If a tie is level on aggregate at the end of the second leg, a penalty shoot-out is held to determine the winner (extra time is not played). The final takes place at King William VII National Park in Ashwell on the Saturday after the end of the SFL season and is the only fixture in the competition proper where extra time is played in the event of a draw, followed by a penalty shoot-out if the match remains level.
